Yesterday, I made a home visit to a first time mother and her premature twins. She had a rough start on her journey to motherhood, full of expensive infertility treatments, into pre-eclampsia and a surgical delivery.

Fortunately, the cesarean section and Intensive Care Nursery were in a hospital on its own journey, to Baby Friendly. Fortunately, she has a strong intention to breastfeed, and the appreciation and encouragement of her family.

“Everyone” told her that breastfeeding premature twins would be difficult. She was ready for a long hard struggle.

To her immense surprise, breastfeeding has been easy. She keeps waiting for it to become difficult.

Why must breastfeeding premature twins be difficult? Why can’t things sometimes go perfectly?

I encouraged her to accept her experience, and told her that breastfeeding twins would only get easier and encouraged her to share her good stories with everyone.

Including you, today!
