Ms First time Mother brought her son for body work because breastfeeding was painful. Oral evaluation at the first visit revealed a tongue-tie, one reason for her pain. (The other reason was uncomfortable positioning, i.e. use of the cross-cradle hold where her breast was stretched into mid-line, and her shoulder was held in a awkward position for the duration of the feed.)

She left our visit with the names of  good local providers who could release the tethered oral tissue. Her choice was to endure as she would rather take the pain herself than subject her sweet baby to any surgery.

After nearly 2 months, she couldn’t take it any more and came for another session of bodywork. The tie was still there.  Bodywork did decrease the pain some, but not enough. After another few weeks of hoping that the situation would resolve as her baby grew, she finally took her son for the revision.

Nearly a month later, she sent me this email:

“I want to say thank you for your wisdom and support in helping us along in our breastfeeding journey. His procedure went very well and I’m happy to say I’m almost always pain free during and after feeding him. I don’t even give him bottles at all anymore and it’s made life so much easier.  I’ve also managed to get my supply more under control and have donated a bunch of that extra milk I have to a mom that has a very low supply.
It was an uphill battle from the beginning with him but he’s finally a much happier baby and I’m a much happier mama! So thank you very much; I really don’t think we would nursing anymore if it weren’t for you.”
We make decisions when we are ready to make them, no matter what our advisors suggest. Respect for this process is always good. And, her sweet baby is lucky to have a dedicated and devoted mama!
The gift is knowing her happiness, and getting a boost of confidence for the next mamma and baby, coming tomorrow.
