Human’s shadow side.
Every morning, I go for a long walk through my neighborhood with my dog.
Today, we encountered another walker, by his accent, Hispanic. He was in his 40s or 50s. My dog went to sniff him and we ended up all walking together while this gentleman asked me if I knew anyone with a cheap car to sell as he has $1,000 to spend. He fixes cars and resells them.
He talked about a potential transaction that was not going well. “Arab” he said, as if that explained everything. “Arab” he said again, and then mimicked the guttural syllables of that language.
Today in the US, anyone with brown or black skin is a target for kidnappers, deportation, and being sent to concentration camps. I am horrified and sickened at my country’s current administration’s dehumanization.
I found it amusing and sad that this man, himself a target, has found someone to dehumanize.
