Protest, acceptance and love

Today I was given another lesson about acceptance and love; that lesson is that they are more important than achievement or performance. Showing up and being 100% involved, along with an open heart give great pleasure, no matter what the outcome. Performance may be imperfect, and accepting that imperfection with love is completely satisfying.

The other thing I thought about this morning has to do with all the ruckus over football, protests, and racism. Protests always make people uncomfortable; that is their purpose, to dislodge our attitudes by calling for awareness and attention. When we are uncomfortable, we can do several things. We can attack that which disturbs us and make it wrong.  Or, we can look inside ourselves to see what there is to learn.  As Brené Brown PhD says, “integrity is choosing courage over comfort, choosing what is right over what is fun, fast and easy, and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.”

Protest is a challenge to our comfort. I will accept  being imperfect and always strive to do my best. With love.
