Singing trees.
When I was growing up, any comment about animals and plants having any consciousness or emotion or thought was sure to bring derision, eye-rolling, and rejection from my father. In his eyes, such notions were “unscientific” and “voodoo”. I grew up learning that attitude and enjoyed being judgemental and righteous when I encountered anything in that realm. These attitudes were reinforced during 6 years of higher education and a first marriage to an rigidly allopathic physician.
Over time, and through life experiences, my own consciousness opened to the world of energy medicine and conscious in all living beings. Being alive means carrying bioelectrical energy; this energy can be obvious or occult. This energy can be respected, sensed and used. It is present, whether I can perceive it or not.
There are research studies about energetics. One shows how the intention of the researcher influences the outcome, and that the researcher becomes part of the experiment. (Experimenter Effects and the Remote Detection of Staring Wiseman, Richard;Schlitz, Marilyn The Journal of Parapsychology; Sep 1997; 61, 3; ProQuest Social Sciences Premium Collection pg. 197) People accept energy communication all the time in their lives; it governs where they choose to sit if they are the first to enter an empty room, they can feel when someone is watching them (Rupert Sheldrake “The Sense of Being Stared At” Consciousness Studies, 12, No. 6, 2005, pp. 10–31), and energy communication guides their selection of a mate. Yet designing a research study to measure energetics is difficult, as the researcher can not be removed from the study.
When I listened to this video of Singing Plants, I was moved. As I walked through the woods this morning, I wondered what the trees and plants would sound like and wished that I could hear them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXhhAXjKmIU Then a thought entered my mind, that humans have to deny that animals and plants have any consciousness. Otherwise, how could we destroy forests and dam rivers and destroy species in order to improve our own comfort and health?

Powerful humans are serving their only their own interests. This could be the the ultimate downfall of humans, unless we open our hearts and minds to the fact that all living things sing, even if we can’t always hear them.
I seek to love and respect all things and, to not take things personally. I wish all humans did the same.
