I never imagined I would have enough to say to write a second book.

My first book, Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Breastfeeding Therapy,  was inspired by an exciting idea that fueled 2 years of work, with the final manuscript published in 2011.

11 years ago, I started writing something to help new parents and pregnant people learn about breastfeeding. It was never meant to be published. I was going to use it only in my clinical practice, a small audience. Over the years, as people gave me feedback and ideas, and as I gained more experience, that document grew and transformed into a book for which I obtained a copyright,

I  tried to give away my little book for free on my professional Facebook page, just as any grandmother would give her wisdom to the next generation of parents. After a few more years, I don’t think that even 5 people took the offer.

One bright day about six months ago, I connected two dots. One was that I work as  Reviews Editor for the USLCA journal Clinical Lactation. Kathy Kendall-Tackett PhD, IBCLC, is the editor-in-chief of that journal. The second dot is that she is also the owner of Praeclarus Press, a publishing company whose books are often reviewed in Clinical Lactation. The light went on when I realized that my little book could be submitted to Praeclarus Press. I did so, and it was almost immediately accepted into the Praeclarus family.

While the official launch of A Breastfeeding Owner’s Manual will be on March 26, 2019, a day already auspicious as the birthday of my youngest daughter, it is available now for purchase, as an e-book and as a paperback.

I hope that the world receives this gift from my heart, and gives it to every mother. If anyone is interested in make a translation in any language (Arabic? Spanish?),  let me know.

warmly,

Nikki
